This site is pretty old as web
sites go. When I made it, it was conventional
to name link pages just that, "links".Currently
it is thought by some experts that search engines
have devalued pages named "links".
Larry is correcting what might
become a problem for my link partners. I have
created a second page called web-associates.htm.
You will find a duplicate link there.
From here on down
it will be mostly gibberish to anyone but an experienced
webmaster.
It is a search engine
no-no to have duplicate content on different pages.
Accordingly, I have prohibited all search engines
from indexing the original page.I used the robots.txt.
Google posted the new page the very next day.
They simultaneously de-listed the old. So far
so, good
Here comes the tricky
part, which involves the Google toolbar. The old
page PR went to Non Existent (gray bar ). The
new page meanwhile shows a PR 0. I expect that
on the next update (probably towards the end of
July it will be updated to at least the bottom
value of any page on this site, The lowest page
has a PR 4.
It is my understanding
that the Page Rank is calculated by Google on
the fly, but the Google toolbar is updated once
every month or so. If that's true, then your link
has moved over seamlessly, and that's all there
is to say.
But maybe
I am wrong about the PR, being a continuous 4.
If so, you are still getting the benefit of a
link, but, for a time, it will be a link of much
less value. Definitely the PR will move up eventually
Please bare with me.
If this still bothers
you, let me know. I value every one of my link
partners. I will make some sort of accommodation.
Thanks for your patience
and understanding.
